We are pretty excited about New Now Next Agents for Change 2015. We have four talks planned for 2015, our the third year working with sponsors Arup. New Now Next is about bringing world leading architects to Dublin to discuss innovative research, design and how we can go about transforming the built environment. This year we’re going international, we went to London’s Design Museum this June. New Now Next is themed to appeal to a mixed audience, from experts in the field, to anyone with an interest in architecture and the built environment.

This year we’re bringing Andy Groarke of Carmody Groarke, Ole Scheeren and Kunle Adeyemi to Dublin. The New Now Next series went international in 2015 when four Irish architecture practices, TAKA, Clancy Moore, Hall McKnight and Steve Larkin speaking at the Design Museum London as part of Irish Design 2015.

Andy Groarke, Carmody Groarke, 20 May Innovation Academy, Dublin 2

Our first speaker in the series, Andy Groarke will be introduced by our Director, Nathalie Weadick. Kevin Carmody and Andy Groarke founded Carmody Groarke in 2006 after meeting at the offices of David Chipperfield Architects. The studio works on a diverse range of private, commercial and cultural commissions in the UK and abroad. Completed projects in London include a studio for British artist Sir Antony Gormley, the 7 July Memorial in Hyde Park, the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) new Architecture Gallery and Frieze Art Fair London, 2011 to 2013. Current projects include the Windermere Steamboat Museum in the Lake District, a new cultural foundation in east London and a number of artist studios and contemporary art galleries.

Since 2006 Carmody Groarke have been awarded Building Design Young Architect of the Year Award (YAYA), the Architectural Review Emerging Architecture Award, the D&AD Yellow Pencil awards for Spatial Design and Exhibition Design and several RIBA National, Regional and Special awards.

Andy spoke to a full house about the practices temporary projects and how they have informed their now more permanent projects such.

A New Generation:  panel discussion with Clancy Moore, Hall McKnight, Steve Larkin and TAKA, 17 June, Design Museum London

We went over to London for the second talk in the series, A New Generation will be introduced by Oliver Wainwright, Architecture and Design critic for the Guardian. Hosted by the Design Museum during the London Festival of Architecture, these four practices form part of an outdoor site specific installation in Kings Cross called New Horizon, which was developed as part of Irish Design 2015. The four practices spoke about how each of them has found a way to practice critically, to collaborate across disciplines and evolve new modes of practice that define 21st century Irish architecture.

Ole Scheeren, Büro Ole Scheeren : Connective Architecture(s)

The third speaker in our series, Ole Scheeren will be introduced by Rory McGowan, Arup. Ole Scheeren is a German architect and principal of Büro Ole Scheeren with offices in Hong Kong and Beijing. Yes he is known as the skyscraper man, but Ole defines his office as working at both ends of scale. Architecture that is connective responds to scale, environment and context. Educated at the universities of Karlsruhe and Lausanne, he graduated from the Architectural Association in London and was awarded the RIBA Silver Medal. Prior to launching Büro Ole Scheeren in March 2010, Scheeren was Director and Partner along with Rem Koolhaas at the Office for Metropolitan Architecture and led the design and realisation of the CCTV Headquarters in Beijing. 

Kunle Adeyemi, NLÉ

NLÉ is led by Kunlé Adeyemi, an architect, designer and ‘urbanist’ with a track record of conceiving and completing high profile, high quality projects internationally. He focuses especially on the rapidly growing cities in developing countries. His recent work includes Makoko Floating School, an innovative, prototype, floating structure located on the lagoon heart of Nigeria’s largest city, Lagos. This acclaimed project is part of an extensive research project – African Water Cities. NLÉ is currently developing a number of urban, research and architectural projects in Africa; one of which is Chicoco Radio Media Center; the amphibious building in Delta city of Port Harcourt in Nigeria. Previously Adeyemei worked for OMA from 2002-2012.
