Continuity in Stone: the O’Tunneys and the O’Sheas 27th – 29th July

The Callan Heritage Society is holding its second conference from 27th – 29th July, entitled Continuity in Stone: the O’Tunneys and the O’Shea. Callan as the most important town in the county was the base of the O’Tunney school of sculptors who, unusually, signed their work. Magnificent carving on many funeral monuments still speaks to us today of the skill of Rory, William, Patrick and James O’Tunney and of the wealth and tastes of their patrons. This conference run by the Callan Heritage Society will build on the first conference in 2010 while emphasizing the continuity of practice in Callan by focusing also on the O’Shea sculptors.

Speakers are Joseph Kennedy, Dr David Edwards, Con Manning, Dr Rachel Moss, Gerard Crotty, Michael O’Dwyer and Paul Arnold.

Friday 27th: 6.15pm to 9.15pm
