The exhibition is the brainchild of photographic artist, Jeanette Lowe. Entitled ‘The Flats: Memories; Perceptions; Reality’, Lowe has created a body of work which captures the textures and moods of inner city life in stark contrast with the sepia intense memories of her own mother’s childhood, exhibited in the surroundings of the actual flats, where the photographs were taken.
The exhibition, which is supported by DCC and sponsored by ESB, offers a vivid glimpse into the vibrant community which exists almost invisibly within the heart of Dublin City and promises to be an exhibition with a difference. Dublin City Council, have facilitated that the ‘gallery’ is in fact the two bed roomed flat that sits just one floor beneath the one where Lowe’s Grandparents reared their thirteen children and events planned during the exhibition include talks on the Art Deco architecture, history and heritage, and stories from the people of the flats. Walking tours will also operate to take visitors from the street outside, into the heart of the exhibition.
The Flats: Memories; Perceptions; Reality, takes place at 8E Pearse House Flats, Lower Erne Street, Dublin 2. The exhibition opens on July 12th and runs until July 22nd.
Opening times are 11am-6pm Monday to Saturday and 12pm-6pm on Sundays.
This exhibition is part of PhotoIreland 2012 Festival and also the South Docks Festival.
The exhibition is taking place in association with DCC and with the kind support of ESB and others.
